The effects of environmental structure on the evolution of modularity in a pattern classifier

چکیده
We examine hierarchical modularity modularity on multiple levels, in which the modules at a lower level of abstraction can serve as nodes in a network at a higher level of abstraction that also has positive modularity as well as degree of modularity on a single level of abstraction, in evolved neural networks in single-task, parallel-subtask environments, and sequential-subtask environments, using a common benchmark problem. We determine that top-performing networks evolved in the sequential-subtask environment have both more levels of hierarchical modularity, and a higher degree of modularity within levels, than those involved in either the single-task or parallel-subtask environment. In the singletask environment, both single-level and hierarchical modularity tend to rise initially before stagnating and even declining, while in the sequential-subtask environment, both singlelevel and hierarchical modularity tend to rise throughout the period of evolution.

Maximum Maintainability of Complex Systems via Modulation Based on DSM and Module Layout.Case Study:Laser Range Finder
The present paper aims to investigate the effects of modularity and the layout of subsystems and parts of a complex system on its maintainability. For this purpose, four objective functions have been considered simultaneously: I) maximizing the level of accordance between system design and optimum modularity design,II) maximizing the level of accessibility and the maintenance space required,III...
متن کاملHabitat effects on morphological variation of Garra rufa (Heckel, 1843) populations in Iran
Understanding the processes involved in evolution of organisms is a principal topic that has received much attention from the research community. A common way to achieve this is to study the ecological conditions and morphological relationships of taxa. Fish are widely regarded as notable animal models in studies of environmental influence on morphological features given their high environmenta...
متن کاملComparative Phylogenetic Perspectives on the Evolutionary Relationships in the Brine Shrimp Artemia Leach, 1819 (Crustacea: Anostraca) Based on Secondary Structure of ITS1 Gene
This is the first study on phylogenetic relationships in the genus Artemia Leach, 1819 using the pattern and sequence of secondary structures of internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1). Significant intraspecific variation in the secondary structure of ITS1 rRNA was found in Artemia tibetiana. In the phylogenetic tree based on joined primary and secondary structure sequences, Artemia urmiana and pa...

Aim: The purpose of this study was to present a model to explain the evolution of Weness in couples. Method: Hence, based on the specific characteristics of Weness structure, qualitative research approach and grounded theory method was applied. The population of this study consisted of all couples living in Tehran who, according to their own statements, had a successful married life. The method...
متن کاملInvestigating the Evolution of Spatial Structure Patterns of Migration in West-Azerbaijan Province
Migration and quality of redistribution of population across country is one of the main factors that planners take into account to control population and guide its movements to economic poles. Scientific recognition of migration phenomenon is important for managing and policy making in the country. These movements change migration pattern, in a way that along with increase in population and the...
